Blue zircon carries a blue that sits between turquoise and steel, shifting with the light. This color does not occur in the ground: it always results from heating brown rough - the customary route to this blue for generations. Its high birefringence doubles the facet edges, giving the stone more depth than its cut alone would suggest.
